His journey ...

Kian is a Seattleite. He lived in Europe for a year and worked and volunteered for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Lausanne, Switzerland and Ufficio Centrale per L'Immigrazione Italiana in Rome, Italy. His adventures landed him in Seattle 32 years ago, where he has been an activist in its social and charitable scene. He has been a relentless advocate for issues of homelessness and housing for the poor.

His community ...

For his efforts in the business community, Kian received the Cal McCune small business award in 2005 and has been nominated for the City of Seattle small business award from 2005-2007. He was on the board of the Greater University Chamber of Commerce from 2001 to 2009 and is an inexhaustible advocate for change in University District's business area. He was also on the board of ROOTS (Rising out Of the Shadows) the only young adult shelter (ages 18-25) in the City of Seattle, between 2004 to 2009. He is the originator of the Coffee Conversations in U-District, where merchants and homeless youth solve their differences in a constructive dialogue.For these reasons he was nominated for the Ravi Shankar humanitarian award in 2006

His passion ...

The need for affordable housing and solving the issues of homelessness is a passion for Kian. He is on the board of The University YMCA, where with the generous help from the Windermere Foundation, he is advocating for afterschool programs for vulnerable and at risk youth. He is also advocating a holistic approach to publicly involved projects. Kian was on the design team for the cultural diversity project "Blocked Out" at University of Washington and is closely co-operating with Professor John Young ( U of W school of Sculpture and Public Art ) on "Up in the Air" ongoing art project . He also spear headed The Studio Front Project. A project designed to beautify the business store fronts and building facades, by accessing local government grants, Architecture students at University of Washington( headed by Professor Jim Nickels )and business owners.
